Code of Conduct

The LIFE Grace project aims to promote the conservation of semi-natural grasslands in the Natura 2000 network thanks to extensive grazing, which is necessary for the protection of these habitats and to avoid their deterioration. The project encourages a collective management of grassland habitats through conservation and monitoring models involving common land managers and farmers. In order to ensure the economic sustainability of the conservation models, LIFE Grace also aims to create a network of farmers and other members of the supply chain to be involved in co-marketing models able to facilitate their economic and trade cooperation and to enhance innovative strategies, ensuring a fair income to operators.

A Code of Conduct was written to promote awareness of the contents of the conservation model, monitoring model, and co-marketing model. The Code summarizes the project’s best practices in 5 key points, which farmers are encouraged to adopt by signing the Code.

The 5 key points of the Code of Conduct:

  1. Managing grassland habitats to improve grazing pastures
  2. Extensive livestock farming and shepherding as a cultural identity that brings socio-ecological change
  3. Development of innovative extensive animal husbandry practices
  4. Territorial cooperation to enhance a short food distribution chain, promote products and sustainability
  5. Supporting the generation of new skills and knowledge

Signing the Code of Conduct is voluntary and open to farmers (and other people involved in the management and use of these grasslands) who want to contribute to grassland conservation for their naturalistic value and for local social and economic development.
