Zootechny becomes digital thanks to the LEO project

The “Livestock Environment Opendata (LEO) Project” has developed a single Italian national livestock digital database. The leader of the project is the Italian Breeders Association (AIA) and the partners include research bodies, database institutes, animal health and hygiene institutes for livestock production and an IT company.

The "Open Data" created by the project, groups the zootechnical data collected by several existing platforms and enables the publication and use of the data, allowing interoperability and the ability to combine a database with others. The data is divided into 7 thematic categories: field data, laboratory data, precision farming data, climate data, animal health and welfare data, genetic data and calculated indicators.

The data will be accessible to anyone who wants to use them so as to encourage exchange and sharing, the transparency of the entire livestock supply chain and the safety of food products.
