Next December 12, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the European LIFE Programme and the Habitats Directive, from 1 pm to 5.30 pm, at the Botanical Garden Museum of Rome (Sala dell'Arancera, Largo Cristina di Svezia, 23 - RM), the conference «LIFE, “Habitats” Directive and Natura 2000 Network.
The protection of nature in Italy through success stories», will take place to celebrate Italy's commitment in implementing the Habitats Directive and the important goals achieved through the LIFE Programme in nature and biodiversity conservation.
The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) - General Directorates for "European and International Activities" (DG AEI) and "Natural and Sea Heritage" (DG PNM) - in collaboration with Sapienza University of Rome, and with the support of ARSIAL (Regional Agency for the Development and Innovation of Agriculture of Lazio) under the LIFE GRACE Project.
The conference agenda will include speeches by representatives of the two General Directorates of MASE and the LIFE Unit of the European Commission, followed by the experiences of Italian LIFE projects which are the protagonists of initiatives contributing to the implementation of the EU Habitats Directive and in particular to the development and the management of the Natura 2000 network. Participants also include the LIFE Grace project, which will be presented by Claudio di Giovannantonio, Director of Asset Protection, Supervision, Quality Production of the Lazio agricultural innovation agency, ARSIAL, coordinating beneficiary of the project. For this occasion, the LIFE GRACE project will organize an opening buffet with tasting of products from "Natura 2000 areas".
Furthermore, a round table will be organized with numerous leading figures of the LIFE programme and the Habitats Directive (representatives of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency - CINEA, of the LIFE NAT Monitoring Team of NEEMO EEIG-Timesis, of the LIFE National Contact Point Team of MASE and, finally, of the regions of Lombardy, Calabria and Friuli Venezia-Giulia).
The conference will end with the show "Enchantment of lights" organized by the Botanical Garden Museum of Rome in collaboration with the Polo Museale Sapienza.
