New information session on school canteens, MEC and km0 products

On 23rd July 2025 at 17:30, LIFE Grace will host an information meeting together with the “Anius Pregius” LAG (Local Action Group), at the Municipal Library in Subiaco (Rome).

The event builds on the collaboration started on 2nd July, when LIFE Grace took part in a meeting organized by the LAG to support the creation and development of a new short supply chain for local meat. By this initiative, LIFE Grace keeps expanding its outreach beyond the 3 project’s SPAs, bringing in this case its proposals into the “Monti Simbruini” SPA.

The goal of this new meeting is to promote high-quality organic, traditional and km0 products, specifically within school canteens. At the event, local administrators from municipalities within the GAL will receive information on how to apply MEC (Minimum Environmental Criteria) in tendering procedures for canteen services and how to access MASAF (Ministry of Agriculture) funding for organic school canteens.

LIFE Grace particularly encourages the inclusion of grass-fed meat from small farms in school menus: these high-quality products support both local rural economy and the conservation of grassland habitats, protected by the EU Habitat Directive as well. It is therefore important to keep making outreach efforts to schools and families and ensure the protection of pastures and biodiversity.
